Why Did You Make It?

Our story begins in 2020. We were working from home, like many of you, and wanted to create a more comfortable work environment for the many hours we were spending at home. We went through multiple candles a week, and it became very expensive. On top of the cost, it was affecting our breathing as well. We realized that there had to be a better way. 

Through trial and error we figured out how to make our own candles, and we put them into empty glass bottles. It was a WIN-WIN! Not only did we get a gorgeous, free container for our candles, we were also helping the environment by reducing waste. Now, we make candles for others, too, using the highest quality, safest organic ingredients possible. We use fragrances that are free of phthalates and performance additives, and our wax is sourced from organic soy farmers in Iowa. 

How Long Will My Candle Burn?

Our organic soy candles burn very slowly. You'll find your candle will last 2-3 times longer than a typical soy blend candle. This is due to it being 100% soy, and not blended with harmful paraffin wax (petroleum waste product). 

1 ounce of soy burns for approximately 5 hours. A Large wine or liquor bottle candle will burn for over 100 hours! 

What Should I Expect?


1) All of the labels will be in "like new" condition but not perfect, they have all held liquid previously, and were either collected by friends or recovered from glass recycling bins. I only use the best for my candles.

2) This is a hand-cut product. Check out my Instagram @tappan.candleworks for videos of the cutting process. Please expect a few imperfections on the cut or the edges, which adds to the charm to any homemade item. No two items are exactly alike. 


3) We have no affiliation with these beer, wine or liquor companies other than love and appreciation for a delicious, refreshing cold one!

How Do I Get The Most Out Of My Candle?

Trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every burn.
- The first burn of any candle should be long enough for the entire top layer of wax to liquefy. This will ensure an even burn for each light.
- Always protect the surface on which the candle sits. If your candle initially doesn't melt to the sides fully after burning for a couple hours, don't worry. Glass conducts heat (which makes it hot to touch) and as the candle burns down lower, the glass walls above will heat up and melt any remaining wax. There will be a bit left at the bottom due to the shape of most wine bottles.
